LAB 01 · EXPERIMENT REGISTRY

Make uncertainty measurable.
Publish what survives.

The Sustainable Oasis Lab turns practical questions into reproducible experiments across energy, water, food, reuse and community systems. We record what we know, what we measured and what still needs work.

A registry entry is not a performance guarantee. Concepts and estimates remain separate from measured results and Oasis-proven operation. Safety controls and qualified review come before any high-voltage, pressurized, structural or public-facing test.

THE EXPERIMENT LOOP

Small tests. Honest data. Useful infrastructure.

The Lab exists to reduce uncertainty before a system becomes a product, a service or a physical installation. Every experiment starts with a question, defines a boundary and leaves a record that another person can understand.

Sustainable Oasis Living Lab with energy, water, food and workshop systems

A result is only useful when someone can repeat it.

  • 01Define the question, hypothesis, boundary and success measure.
  • 02Control the setup and name the variables that can change the result.
  • 03Measure inputs, outputs, cost, time, waste, safety conditions and uncertainty.
  • 04Record raw data with timestamps, units, instrumentation and failures.
  • 05Analyze the result, limitations and next test without hiding what did not work.
  • 06Share the method so a guide, product or community project can improve it.

Low-voltage, low-energy experiments are the safest starting point. Batteries can deliver dangerous fault current; mains, high-voltage, pressurized, thermal and structural work requires appropriate protection, procedures and qualified expertise.

LIVE REGISTRY

Experiments move through clear evidence stages.

These are research tracks, not promises of performance. Select a status to see where a question currently sits, then open the detailed records as results are validated.

SO-EMS · 001

Low-voltage energy meter bench

Can a simple, repeatable bench track input, output, storage, recovery and efficiency across small DC systems?

Planned
Inputs: solar, battery, recovered energyOutputs: voltage, current, watt-hours, efficiency
SO-EMS · 002

Solar-to-storage load profile

Which small loads create the clearest baseline for matching generation, storage capacity and useful runtime?

Concept
Inputs: solar generation and charge profileOutputs: load curve, losses, cost per usable cycle
SO-WATER · 001

Water–Energy Loop

How much energy, water and maintenance does a small circulation and filtration loop require for a defined use?

Planned
Inputs: flow, head, pump power, filter stageOutputs: litres, watt-hours, pressure, service interval
SO-FOOD · 001

Compact food-growing loop

Can a compact growing system make its light, water, nutrient and labour requirements visible enough to improve?

Concept
Inputs: water, light, nutrients, timeOutputs: yield, waste, operating cost, repeatability
SO-REUSE · 001

Recovered-material workshop

Which recovered materials can become safe, useful components when preparation time, quality and end use are documented?

Concept
Inputs: material, tools, labour, sortingOutputs: usable part, diversion, cost and limitations
SO-RESILIENCE · 001

Critical-load handoff

What is the safest, clearest way to keep a small critical load running during an outage without overbuilding the first layer?

Planned
Inputs: load list, surge watts, runtime, protectionOutputs: handoff time, runtime, heat, noise and procedure

Status labels describe the research stage, not a product rating. A measured result still needs a defined setup, raw data, uncertainty and a repeatable method before it becomes a recommendation.

METHOD AND RECORD

The record is the product of the experiment.

Each detailed record keeps the question connected to the build, the data and the next decision. That is how a test becomes a guide, a product, a service or a community capability.

01 · Define

Question and hypothesis

State what is being tested, why it matters and what result would change the next decision.

02 · Control

Setup and variables

Name the boundary, inputs, outputs, controls, instruments and conditions that can change the result.

03 · Measure

Data and uncertainty

Use units, timestamps and a clear measurement method. Record limitations instead of smoothing them away.

04 · Record

Raw evidence

Preserve observations, readings, photos, costs, failures, maintenance and safety checks.

05 · Analyze

Result and limits

Separate measured, estimated, derived and demonstrated statements before drawing a conclusion.

06 · Repeat

Next test

Identify the smallest useful improvement and make the method easier for another person to reproduce.

EVIDENCE LANGUAGE

Clear labels protect trust.

Commercial relationships and research evidence stay separate. We use precise labels so a reader can tell the difference between an idea, a calculation, a measured result and a system that has operated in the real world.

Demo

Demonstrated

A visible setup or walkthrough that shows the concept, without claiming repeatable performance.

Estimate

Estimated

A calculation or manufacturer specification used to plan a test. It is not a field measurement.

Measured

Measured

A result captured with a defined instrument, setup, timestamp, unit and stated uncertainty.

Derived

Derived

A conclusion calculated from recorded data, with assumptions and limitations made visible.

OPEN RESEARCH

Have a question worth testing?

Share the practical problem, the system you want to understand and the smallest test you believe could reduce uncertainty. We will sort the idea into a clear research track before anyone spends money or builds a permanent installation.

  • 01Describe the problem and the decision the result would support.
  • 02Tell us what you can measure, build or observe safely.
  • 03Receive next steps for a concept, prototype or documented test.

We will reply with next steps. This form does not collect payment or approve a hazardous installation.

FROM DATA TO CAPABILITY

Turn a test into a shared system.

Follow the path from experiments to prototypes, results and open R&D. Then connect what survives to the store and the wider Sustainable Oasis ecosystem.
