Sustainable Oasis Living Lab research workshop

BUILD • TEST • MEASURE • IMPROVE • REPLICATE

The Living Lab.
Where ideas earn proof.

Sustainable Oasis uses practical experiments to understand how energy, water, food, automation and resilient infrastructure perform outside the drawing board.

Observe honestly • Measure carefully • Publish what we learn

WHY A LIVING LAB?

Because a beautiful idea is only the beginning.

The Living Lab exists to reduce uncertainty. We build small, measurable experiments before scaling larger systems. Successes become stronger designs. Failures become documented lessons. Both create value.

RESEARCH AREAS

Four laboratories. One connected system.

Each research area can be tested independently, then integrated as evidence and capability improve.

THE METHOD

A repeatable experiment loop.

We want experiments simple enough to understand and documented well enough to reproduce.

01 • QuestionDefine exactly what we are trying to learn.
02 • BaselineRecord starting conditions and relevant assumptions.
03 • PrototypeBuild the smallest useful test configuration.
04 • MeasureCapture inputs, outputs, efficiency, cost and reliability.
05 • LearnIdentify what worked, failed or remains uncertain.
06 • IterateImprove the design and run the next meaningful test.

MEASUREMENT BEFORE CLAIMS

Track what goes in and what comes out.

For energy experiments, that can mean voltage, current, power, energy, storage state, losses and efficiency. For water, food and automation, the measurements change—but the discipline stays the same.

Measurements should include test conditions and uncertainty wherever practical so results are not presented with more confidence than the experiment supports.

EVIDENCE LEVELS

Different claims deserve different labels.

This keeps the Store useful while protecting the credibility of the research.

RESEARCHED Supported by credible references, specifications or prior evidence, but not yet directly tested by us.
RECOMMENDED Selected because available evidence suggests it fits a defined use case.
LAB TESTED Physically evaluated by Sustainable Oasis under documented test conditions.
OASIS PROVEN Demonstrated successfully as part of an operating Sustainable Oasis system over meaningful use.

SO-EMS • ENERGY MANAGEMENT R&D

Measure the energy story from source to useful output.

The Sustainable Oasis Energy Management System research program is designed to connect generation, storage, consumption, recovery and experiment data into one understandable measurement framework.

The long-term objective is not simply more sensors. It is better decisions: where energy comes from, where it goes, what is lost and what changes actually improve system performance.

WHAT WE DOCUMENT

An Oasis should eventually be able to tell its own story.

⚡ EnergyGenerated, consumed, stored, recovered and lost.
💧 WaterCollected, filtered, stored, circulated and reused.
🌱 FoodYield, growing time, water use, energy use and inputs.
♻ MaterialsWaste avoided, repaired, reused, recycled or composted.
$ EconomicsBuild cost, operating cost, maintenance and useful output.
◉ ReliabilityUptime, maintenance events, failures and corrective actions.
Digital knowledge produced from Sustainable Oasis research

RESEARCH → KNOWLEDGE → VALUE

The experiment does not end when the test ends.

Useful results can become product reviews, build notes, open educational material, premium guides, calculators, plans, courses, kit specifications and better infrastructure designs.

FAILURE IS DATA

We should document what does not work.

A failed experiment can save the next builder time, money and materials. Transparent negative results can be as useful as success when the test conditions and limitations are clearly described.

What happened?Record the observed result without rewriting the story afterward.
Why might it have happened?Separate measured evidence from hypotheses.
What did it cost?Track wasted time, materials and money as useful learning.
What changes next?Turn the failure into a better experimental design.
Sustainable Oasis values

THE RESEARCH PRINCIPLE

Never protect an idea from the evidence.

If the measurements disagree with the hypothesis, we improve the hypothesis—not the measurements. That discipline is how experiments become trustworthy knowledge.

FOLLOW THE EVIDENCE

Build something.
Measure it.
Make the next version better.
